“I’ve been here ten years now, which says a lot about how much I enjoy working in the tile industry – and this company in particular. In fact, I worked for Ceramic Tile Distributors before they were brought into the Tile Group, so I’ve seen first-hand the benefits of being part of Saint-Gobain.
“It’s a far cry from my first day, when I was overwhelmed by the number of stock lines we kept. The office was really busy, disturbingly so. To tell the truth I wasn’t even sure I could do the job. I got my head down though, worked hard, and soon picked up the skills.
“Things are certainly different now. We get great support from the management team, and have inter-departmental meetings every month. So if there are any problems, they’re quickly sorted out. The training has improved dramatically too: only recently, I beat some strong competition to become our Sales Office Supervisor. I’m still walking around with a smile on my face, and love the extra responsibility.
“Even with the new role, however, the people are a big reason why I’m still here after a decade. We work well as a team across the entire site and love ribbing each other. The other day one of the girls came into the office in odd shoes: it was like all our Christmases had come at once.”
