“I’ve been in the tile industry all my working life. In fact, I even had my own business, so I was once a direct competitor of Tile Group. The recession a few years back hit me hard though, and just as I was about to open my own distribution warehouse, I had to close the company.

“That experience hasn’t gone to waste though - it’s given me the perfect platform for life here at Tile Group. There’s such an entrepreneurial spirit here, that the buzz around the place is much the same as a small business. But while we’re free to make decisions about how we run our business and attract new customers, we have the reliable backing of a multi-billion pound parent company.

“That’s not to say the management just sit in the background. They’re always on hand if we need anything, and I’m still amazed by the way everyone is on first name terms with the Directors – I’ve never seen an attitude like it in such a big company.

“Most of all though, I’m constantly impressed with our new depot. I joined just as it was opening, and the first few weeks were tough to say the least. But the ‘can do’ atmosphere soon led to a great feeling of achievement. Everyone took on the new processes and procedures we developed, and I made sure they had every chance to learn new skills. The pride amongst the team is obvious – a competitor I know popped by the depot other week; and if the look on his face is anything to go by, we must be doing well.”
